The Unfinished Battle for Quality Public Schools

Sunday, February 20, 2:00 p.m.

Freed slaves, together with white sharecroppers, won universal, free, integrated public schools for the first time in U.S. history during the post-Civil War reconstruction era. Now, privatizers and budget-cutters want to take it all away. Come to an open discussion and celebration of the ongoing struggle to defend and improve free, quality public education.

Speakers:
Lillian Thompson—African American elementary school teacher, fighter for bilingual education, union representative and organizer against school giveaways to charter companies.

Yuisa Gimeno—Radical Women Organizer and advocate for quality public education in the LA March 4th Committee to Defend Public Education and Services.

Doors open at 1:30pm, $3 donation requested. A Southern-style dinner with vegetarian option will be served after the program at 4:30pm for a $10 donation.
(Work exchanges available for low income, no one turned away for lack of funds.) The forum will be held at Solidarity Hall, 2170 W. Washington Bl. Los Angeles, off the 10 freeway, on bus lines 35, 207 & 550.

Co-sponsored by the Freedom Socialist Party and Radical Women.
